The origins of "Les observatoires du Clain" can be found in a small Czech town Zdanice.  In 2015 I was able to aquire the instruments and the library of this abandoned observatory.  The original Zdanice Observatory was build in the 1960's and housed two large refractors (20 cm f:15 and 16 cm f:15) on professional equatorial mounts. This wonderful instruments were build by Gajdusek and Kozelsky.  Beside the observatory mounted telescopes there were several other telescopes (2 25 cm Cassegrain and another 16 cm refractor).

This find is a ones in a lifetime find. First I moved the telescopes and the library to Belgium and then I started the search for a new home for this instruments.  My idea was to create a new  observatory were amateur astronomers and visitor can discover the dark sky historical telescopes.  I wanted a dynamic place who people can observe together and chare ideas and experiences about astronomy.

Later in 2015 The University of Ghent, Belgium contacted me if I was interested in their 50 cm Ealing - Beck Cassegrain.  Of course the big Cassegrain will be installed here.

In 2016 I arrived whit all the instruments here in Sommières-du-Clain.  The farm is perfect place to realize the project.  There is the 1 ha Star Field with 4 small houses for the observatories, a large terrace for other telescopes, an exhibition room with space for the library and the farm with 3 guest rooms.

As to date only on the terrace are telescopes installed but soon the works on the observatories will start.
